This post will change your life

Back in Ljubljana during the holiday I ran across this fascinating book called "This Diary will change your life 2005". I was in a book-shop when my attention was drawn by the exquisite graphic design of the book. But it was only when I started to actually read some of the pages when I realized what a beautiful idea was behind all of them. In brief, and in the own words of the authors, “This Diary Will Change Your Life 2005 is a recipe for permanent revolution. It doesn't just record your routine of appointments and meetings, it tells you what to do every day of the year”. Basically, what you get when you buy the book is 365 pages loaded with very well written, amusing pieces of advice to guide each of the days during the year. As I only found the 2005 edition I just opened the book randomly and I started reading:

“Today, single out one of your toes for special treatment”
“Invent your own traffic rule of the road and obey it”
“Today plant marijuana outside a government building and report them to the local newspaper”
“Neighborhood watch weekend”
“Hold hands all day today”
“Today rearrange your local supermarket according to your own preferences”

Each page of the book has a creative idea behind it and some of them are quite fresh. Many of the pages are inspired by insights/real life observations that would maybe take months to capture by research. It’s a very inspiring and, most of all, engaging book that can brighten your day (if you buy it as a diary) or that may fuel your thinking as a planner if you take the time to read it having consumers in mind. And if you think of doing a brand book for your own brand, maybe you should do it in 365 pages with a random activity for your brand each day. How would that be?

Here you can find more excerpts from the book.

Intamplari casnice

Totul sunt in regula acum!

Honesty

Some honest guys in Ljubljana named their store "no name". They admit they couldn't find a proper name. Maybe creatives should make the same thing when they can't find a decent selling line: "no slogan here". Or maybe planners should also write in their briefs "no insight here", instead of writing some usual consumer observations and call them 'insights'.
